Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna of Russia's Sapphire & Diamond Kokoshnik

Creation:  This tiara was made by Cartier in 1909 using a 137.2 carat cushion cut sapphire that had been used in a previous tiara and six cabochon sapphires that belonged to Empress Alexandra Feodorovna of Russia.  The sapphires with their diamond surrounds can be removed and worn as brooches or hair ornaments.
